Unbiased handgun reviews- which magazines, web sites would have those?

Try googling specific firearms with the word "review" after it. Sort through a couple pages and you will run into some good sites.

Look at Chuckhaks and TTAG (The truth about guns.) also blogs can be a good source of info if they aren't just plugging an advertiser.

None. Nobody does Consumer Reports sorts of gun reviews that entail the consistency and attention to detail to rule out personal and testing biases.

That isn't to say CR isn't without personal biases as when it comes to the ergonomic aspect of products, what some often like is what some often dislike and vice versa. One of the biggest problems with firearms is the issue of ergonomics, in large part because most are one-size fits all.

No such thing as an unbiased firearm review. Likely no such thing as an unbiased anything review.

You could probably come up with some kind of objective tests like "we measured the terminal ft/lbs of energy delivered by these guns". The objective results might suggest, let's say, the S&W 500 mag with 8 3/8 bbl is "best". Then, obviously, to suggest to the young lady in the thread that asked "What's the best gun, I'm a newbee?" that she needs one would be silly.

You can't objectivly measure or report on things like "smooth trigger", "Natural point", "Hand fit" and esp stuff like "looks". And all that kind of subjective stuff is what makes me like THIS brand/style of gun while you like THAT brand/style of gun. How many times do we read, right here, "But I just don't like the feel of the Binford autoloaders". Or, "Those Kenmore revolvers just look weird to me".

I agree....and Chuck Hawks is a far cry from unbiased. I read a review from Dick Metcalf in the new issue of "Handguns" just the other day on a new Les Baer and it was almost laughable. By the end of the article, one was led to believe not only was the gun a gift from heaven, but Les Baer himself could walk on water.

Online gun forums like this are great source for info on a particular firearm, but one needs to wade thru the trolls and the fanboys and read between the lines. Kinda like findin' the mean average...... throw out the three highest and three lowest posts and glean your info from the rest.

SWAT will - I recall Tom Given's pretty brutal review of the Judge. This issue has a straight forward report of a Sig 50 BMG rifle breaking down.

You also need to read the signs. Acceptable accuracy, boy - is their service department prompt, if you get my drift.

I totally and completely distrust gun reviews.

Many years ago, I know my range master for a major sheriffs department is a writer for a publication, and he said that manufacturers would give him guns to review. He never once wrote a negative review, and as a consequence, he had a huge locker full of guns that were given to him. Imagine if he were to write negative reviews, the freebies would stop coming.

This is the reason why reputable reviewers in things like Cinema or restaurant newspaper publications pay for their own meals/movies. And this is the reason consumer reports buys their own cars or products to test.

I am pretty sure that all gun writers get freebies from the gun manufacturers.

I've gone through old Guns and Ammo and Other magazines, and I have yet to find a negative review of a gun. Im reading a review of Taurus and another on Raven Arms. Lol. You would think Taurus is about to win a military contract for their pistols, they're so good.

I am not OK with unfounded, I am sure, etc. charges against folks.

Unless you have a documented case of such, let's not make the charge.
