Unarmed Canadian Border Guards Walk Off Job After Tip From US Authorities

Officers at one Fraser Valley crossing at Aldergrove, B.C., opted not to exercise their contractual right to leave their posts if they felt endangered.

Opted not to exercise their contractual right to leave their posts if they felt endangered?

Borders

Not much better down south. Even though they have guns, they are out gunned, by the MS13, La Raza and the Zetas and an administration that won't protect our borders during a time of war and terrorism. As a forefather said, only traitors leave the gates open for the raiders. We need background checks on the gov't to see who is tied to the communist party!

If I am unarmed and a Governement guard and I have a contractual right to leave when endangered... Id be gone too.

I'd do the same thing!
Maybe that will put some fire under the administrations butt to get these folks forearms.
Can you imagine!
Unarmed border guards.....in todays world!!!!

Canada, hmmm. Seems to me that Country has an awful lot of things backwards like that. I wonder what its people are gonna' do when terrorism finally sinks its teeth into their soil. Sounds like their new Prime Minister is starting to slowly but surely change some of the pathetic gun laws but has a hugely long way to go.

What are they gonna' do when someone trots across your border and says "this land is my land... (add a little musical note to that). What? Fall over backwards and let 'em have it? It would sure appear that's all they have a prayer for. No Military, no armed border agents, and hardly a single public sole with a decent handgun. What are they gonna' do?

Oh gee, that's right, they'll just run to the aid of their neighbor, the one with those important abilities, the one who is the only remaining World Superpower. What was I thinking? Hey, can we charge rent for that??!!

Canada needs to finally quit being so sheepish in this new world of terrorism otherwise the wolfs are gonna' have their way with 'em sooner or later...

On the other hand, what would the US do if someone tried to trot across our border in the same fashion? Well, let's just say that the general population of Americans own more guns and ammo than our own Military - what do ya think we're gonna' do? I can guarantee we won't be falling over backwards and running for our lives...

We've got the Mexican Army crossing the border here, at will, and nobody is doing anything about it. Once their logistics train is in position, they'll be heading north. I haven't seen any interest from the Federales in Washington.

to Nortonics from a CANUCK

Want to invade us?? Won't be easy bud! We are not all sheep! Our border guards will soon be armed And we have 6 million guns (according to the national registry). Just stop picking on your neighbors!! thanks JITC:barf: :D

:D "It's the third incident in a month when a Canadian border point closed as unarmed officers fled over the threat of armed Americans approaching."

What a mess Canada is. It shows how bad the gun rights situation is up there when they won't even let border guards protect themselves.

Um, no. Canadian border guards are allowed to protect themselves. They simply are not allowed to carry guns.

I am continually amazed when folks believe that the only way they can defend themselves is with guns. Guns are excellent self defense tools, but they are hardly the only self defense tool.

C'mon...are you serious? You actually think the US would have a hard time invading Canada? Not that they'd want to. Put the maple leaf down for a second and think rationally. By the way, I'm no yankee Canadian-hater, I am actually Canadian, but I can deal in the realm of reality.

What did you think I was referring to?

must have been smart Canadians...since the government does not furnish them training nor a means to defend themselves.

Canadians have spent the last fifty years having their individuality and rights drained out of them by the Federal government. They'll watch the invasion on the CBC to see what the government does about it. Peter Mansbridge will field calls on whether the American Forces are required to register their guns and how they will apply for political refugee status. Maritimes callers will ask whether the Americans will be making Transfer Payments to the have-not provinces.

The various insulated immigrant communities have no allegiance to Canada and will just continue with their lives as long as the social benefits are offered.

Nothing would please me more than to see Canadians rise up to defend their homeland with the raw guts and courage that charged up Vimy Ridge, stormed ashore at Juno Beach and slugged it out man-to-man with the ChiComs in Korea but those Canadians and that Canada are long gone.

You can always take it to the United Nations.

How much protection should they have against the only people they share a border with: US citizens?

I'm a little surprised you guys are treating the US/Canada border like the gate into the Gaza Strip.

An armed criminal is an armed criminal regardless of nationality. But Canadians in general, do view Americans as gun-crazy militia types.

We are not all sheep!
No we aren't...too bad though in a way...Canada was better off IMO just falling in line and doing whatever the US told us to do. Who gave us permission to think for ourselves? ;)

Handy, sovereignty is sovereignty. A sidearm on a guard or law enforcement officer is hardly an offensive weapon and will afford the guard the ability to control or deter those who choose not to subscribe to a social contract (like the rest of us).

A guard with no gun is like a guard dog with no teeth.
