UN gun ban

Question: the senate negotiates treaties. How many votes does it take to accept a treaty. Can the President veto a treaty?
I am asking, because as i see it, the UN is going to be the biggest threat to the 2nd ammendment for at least the next couple of years.
I can't see the Democrats trying to make a big stink for gun control right now. They don't want to wake anybody up so they can grease the rails for the that outright marxist Hillary.
As I understand it is illeagel for the senate to sign a treaty that voids our rights. I would hope that since the courts like to use the word unconsitutional they would stop it. But this is to important to leave to judges to decide. The NRA made it a point to get this infomation out a while ago, but I haven't heard anything as of late.
If this follows what Iv'e seen the UN try before, added to the fact that they are not going to away makes me nervous.

America in general despises the UN. Their gun control policiy is just one of the issues that makes them unpopular here. I know plenty of democrats and aven some anti's that despise the UN for their own reasons. Even the people who are somewhat nueatral recognize that the UN is absolutely the most impotent global organization extant.

DOn't sweat the UN.

The Democrats Like the UN!

When should we worry about the UN...after the Democrats give up our rights?

I'd like to look at the UN and the Democrats with 20/20 foresight...not 20/20 hindsight!!!

I personaly like to look at the UN over iron sites, but my friend swears by his Leupold...:D

I am realy not to concerned about the UN gun ban. It is a total crock just like everything else they put forth. If they were realy worried they would ban guns from the hands of tyrannical governments. They are the ones who do most of the killing.

Besides, blue helmets make good targets.:D

In answer to the poster's question, Article II, Section II says a president can "make" a treaty only with the advice and consent of the Senate, and ONLY with a 2/3 majority vote in that Senate.

So yes, this incoming Senate being led by Harry Reid, in conjuction with the famous "Uniter not a Divider" president we have currently, may be capable of selling us out in the interest of the retched "Bipartisan Common Ground" end run which invariably leads to a huge loss of liberty of the People.

The constitution

Also states that the president cannot make treaties with other countries that go contrary or overrides the Constitution. We need to get out of that communist organization, like Ron Paul's bill that asked congress to do just that. We have two years, people.
The constitution gave us three boxes, the jury box, the ballot box, and the ammo box.
Which one still works?

The UN gun ban will only come up again when the NRA isn't getting enough money by spamming out video tapes and demanding payment.

Ignore it. Blasting the NRA for raising money is ridiculous. Whatever guns you now own were made possible by the NRA "spamming" for money.

"America in general despises the UN."

I wouldn't count on that. I think that most Americans simply don't think about the UN very much, and generally believe what they read about it in the papers. Which is to say, mostly good things.

Same as gun control. Most non-shooters (and even a few shooters!) don't think about guns very much.

I read somewhere that the President can overide the Senate and sign a treaty without a 2/3 vote. Is this true?
