UMC vs core-lokt rifle ammo

Folks- may be odd question but need some help. I've looked on the Remington web site but could not find the answer I needed. I've recently got a new scope for my REM 700 (308 WIN) and still have same concern as difficult to get a tight shot group using 150 gr core-lokt. However when I shoot 150 gr UMC shot group is tight. According to remington web site the ballistics are the same for UMC and core-lokt. My concern is no info on the UMC expansion and all info on UMC refers to varmint/target shooting only? Can you hunt deer with UMC ammo or is my issue with the core-lokt all in my head?

The only UMC load for .308 Winchester uses a Full-Metal-Jacket bullet. That is an extremely poor choice for deer, and illegal in every state I know (there may be some that allow FMJs, but I've never seen it).

You'll be much better off with an expanding bullet, than an FMJ. The deer will be much better off, as well (quick death, versus painful and slow death).

The 308 has lots of opts. other than umc.how about federal 168 gameking
HORNADY 150 GR.SST.try a few more different loads you'll find one you/your gun will like better,

If you aren't happy with the Core Lokts, shop around and find a hunting round that shoots well in your gun. I wound not use the UMC for deer.

As far as Core Lokts, I used them for years without incident. They are good solid dependable round. They may not be as fancy as some of the other ammo out there today, but they do the job they were designed to do.

I used core-lokts years ago before I got into reloading. I got some erratic groups as well. I found with some of the core-lokts cartridges' to vary in total weight by up .3 tenths of a grain. That as back in the mid 90's and have shot reloads every since. They might have gotten more accurate since then.

You have other options if you do not like core lokt's. Sometimes certain cartridges don't do well in certain guns.
