ultramax ammo?

I was looking for some cheap ammo to practice with and came across some ultramax. Its 250 rds for $60. I seen a video on youtube about a guy having problems with it in his semi auto, not really a problem for me since I have a revolver. Has any one had issues with this ammo in a revolver?

Shot a bunch of ultramax .45acp through my brother's colt 1917. Incredibly dirty. We actually had to wipe down the cylinder every few cylinders to keep it from binding.

Prices around me are pretty comparable to factory 1st run stuff. I couldnt see the point in paying what they wanted...

What caliber? I can get 9mm federal champion at walmart for 19.99 per 100. .40s&w is like 25 and change per 100. That is perfectly fine plinking ammo. I would not buy factory reloads when the price is not that much difference if any at all. JMHO. Good luck with it man.

Are you using reloads or the new stuff? Apparently they offer both. I have a box of 150 rounds of .45 auto reloads and have used none of them yet. Probably bought 5 years ago at better prices than today. Also have some cowboy loads in .45 Colt. The few I have used have been OK.

Ultramax reloads

I've used LOTS of Ultramax reloaded 5.56 mm ammo over the years. I get it from Sportsman's Guide and it's my primary practice load for my AR-15s. I've been really happy with it.

I've shot a little bit of Ultramax reloaded handgun ammo. I thought it was okay. I preferred the FMJ bullets over the lead bullets.

If you shop around, you might be able to find quality commerical reloads somewhat cheaper. Check Georgia Arms.

i put about 400 rounds of ultramax in .357 sig through my glock 32 i found one with a cracked case but that was it, the other 399 were perfect. only other problem was very low velocity only about 1200 fps with 125 grain fmj but when you're plinking who cares?

As stated above, GA Arms is good ammo for reasonable prices. I have used them with great results. They are usually at the bigger gun shows in my area.

Been looking at them for years, seems to be fishy to me. Reload's for new prices? In fact I could get better prices on new.

Don't ask.

Not Worth It

It's too expensive for what is basically very dirty reloaded ammo.
I can buy commercial reloads that are much cleaner locally for much lower prices.

Try Georgia Arms for good new and reloaded ammo.

The Dude from GA Ammo was kind of adick at a gun show (asked a simple, polite qustion about primers. Guess everyone can have a bad day) but I run their 124 grn +P gold dot stuff through my nine and thats what I keep it loaded with. Reloads work well too.

I shot a 250 round box of 9mm Ultramax 125gr lead RN thru a Browning Hi-Power and the only thing I noticed was the insane amount of smoke it generated in the indoor range I was shooting. It actually started drawing the attention of other shooters and the range staff to see what the hell I was shooting. No functioning problems, but if I ever buy more I will shoot it on one of the infrequent times I actually get to shoot outdoors.

Unbelieavble filthy ammo. Every shot generates a thick cloud of thick, greasy smoke. My revolver was literally slick with the greasy residue it leaves behind. $60 for 150 rounds is crap. I can buy 150 rounds of Federal at Walmart for less.

Well I went to my local walmart and they don't carry 100 rd box of ammo and the federal and remmington box of 50 is $20 for the 38 spec., is that normal price everywhere else? I don't know what a box of 250 ammo would cost or who would even carry it except for cabelas or bass pro and they're overpriced.

I had an .223 ultramax case split in half in my saiga.

that aside, its not worth it. If they were 70% of the cost they are now they may be worth considering
