I hope all the folks in the revolver and semi-auto forums realize that the shotgun is the ultimate home defense tool, far more effective than any handgun. They can grab their 45's, me.....I'll take my 12 gauge. :D

I agree, the 12 gauge does reign supreme in the civillian self defense world, if not just for it's manstopping capabilitities alone. What criminally intent villan can absorb a 12 gauge slug or buck shot at room distance and still remain a threat. Even with body armor it'll at least hurt bad. The advantages to the handgun is it's size and ability by most to be grabbed quicker, pointed and utilized quicker and in a less unweildly manner. For quick access or ccw the handgun win's. but when trouble may be expected or the shtf , fight for the 12 gauge. It will finish it up.
 
Pardner makes a good home deffence shotgun, short barel, fixed improved cylender choke. It was on sale for around $150 and according to some books I've read they are comparable to an 870.

I agree a 12 gauge shotty is effective, but, a large breed dog with a nasty bark ususlly stops the problem before it begins.And they are almost as much fun as a gun :D
