I was pondering some of the new house resolutions in the Blagojevich thread posted by dZ, in particular the 10Mbuck per annum weapons allotment.
I've thought about this before.
A couple of things are going to have to happen in order for a full federal outright gun ban to get the house and senate approval it will need (the presidency doesn't matter, history has shown us that much).
One thing, it will have to be ruled that the government (state and federal, et al) *is* in fact responsible for everyones safety.
This is not such a big deal, because we can't really sue the government for more than the government is willing to allow. Odd, but true. Read the law if you don't belive me.
Next, We will have to seriously up the police presence. We've been listening to this discussion for years, Get more cops on the street.
10 million for arms purchases a year ain't gonna cut it. It will take billions, , , , wait, the cold war is pretty much over, yeah it keeps sputtering and threatening to light back up, but it is unlikely, , we can have a war against our own people!! It will cost billions and we all know how much the fed is in *love* with utilizing our tax "surplus" and spending billions on stuff. It makes politicians positively drunk with joy to think of pork like that.
And it's sexy!! Just like in the movies,
Robo-cop anti-glare hi-tech bounding overwatch buddy teams of shock-troop police on every street corner in America.
Of course, they are there for the good of the children.
Weapons are totally illegal, just leaving your dna sample in proximity of one will get you the federal felony charge, nolo-contentre defacto convicted by the evidence, no jury needed, felon, no rights. done. Can't own a business, can't vote. Only thing left is to go on welfare or starve. We gotta be tough on crime, right?
It's alread getting that way. A routine traffic stop is getting to be a high-stakes game, and as the ante gets upped, , , ,
Soon, there will be three distinct classes, the convicts, the soon-to-be-convicts, and the soldiers/police/whatever you want to call them.
The stakes are all or nothing. The only supply of arms is, , , I won't say it, you know what it is. It's an all or nothing game, who is going to play? You all already know what fence sitting accomplishes.
This is the future we face.
Ugly thought.
