Ugly rifles/scopes

I know that plenty of you would not by X brand of gun because they make ugly rifles. But who wouldn't buy a scope because its ugly?

Having looked through the top end of Burris scopes, I could bring myself to buy one. I also think that IOR and US optics make extremely ugly scopes.

I can't be the only one.

I suppose you could buy an ugly gun and put an ugly scope on it and it might average out an look ok...

I don't have what Texans call a barbeque gun.

Now aint that the best reason to get one?

I think the curved light gathering fibers on most trijicons look stupid but I'd still like to have one. Love my rx30.

Personally, I think all scopes are ugly and detract from a fine firearm. This is obviously just my personal bias. I suppose with "tactical" rifles, small "tactical-looking" optics can look alright. There's just something that looks inherently fragile about scopes that take away from the smooth lines and ruggedness of a steel-and-wood rifle.

Yes, I know that I might be a little bit odd when it comes to aesthetics of firearms - the look, feel, and finishing of a gun really does matter to me.

Bauhaus...

Trg 42 etc.--The Bauhaus movement states, that Form Follows Function. IOW, If it works, if it does what you want, then it's beautiful. If it doesn't work won't do what you want, then it's ugly, and nice lines have nothing to do with it.

'Course, if it works, and does what you want, and it also has elegant lines, well then, that's a real bonus!

Form may follow function but it's still important.
A funstional accurate scope is no big deal, there's a half dozen manufacturers that make excellent scopes that will do what you want them to. However manufacturers that make functional scopes that also look good.......ehhh not so many.

Just like polymer-framed striker-fired wonder-nines. Most every manufacturer makes one and when you pick which one to buy, function is not so important because they all function pretty much the same way, and all are perfectly reliable. You're just picking on looks, and not a whole lot of them look very good.

I actually studied a bit about the Bauhaus Design era, and I use that quote on my girl friend all the time!

I know optical clarity is by far the most important thing, but looking at some Burris scopes I think they look horribly ugly, and can get a Bushnell that's the same optically but looks a lot nicer.

I must be the only one this way inclined.
Although if a great deal was to come up on a so called "ugly scope" I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

I've always thought the Elcan Specter DR was a ugly chunk of
metal. Anybody want to give me one to try to change my opinion?:)

That's why you like your FNC so darn much.
