Uberti "Wednesday" Walker

Shooting bp revolvers for over 19+ year's I've never owned an Uberti. Don't know how or why that happened, but it did. The other day I posted about a Uberti Walker I picked up and today I shot it. It shoots straight as an arrow but 9 in high, like most Colts at 25yds (40g fff-wad-454rb). The action felt worked over it was so smooth, fit and finish is as good as I've examined on any reproduction (Centaure's included). I took it apart and immediately noticed the quality of the springs and fit of the parts, no action job had been done. Now I gotta ask, are all Uberti's this superior, or did I just get lucky and get a "Wednesday" gun? For those of you who don't understand the "Wednesday", part. Think of production line folks who work all week then party all weekend. Monday is hangover heaven, Tuesday you're feelin' pretty good, Wednesday is "hump" day and you're focused, Thursday you're thinkin' about Friday night and Friday you're thinking about the evening and the 2 day's to follow. So, theoretically, the only day great work get's done cause you're not preoccupied is 'Wednesday".

Production lines

Henry Ford was probablly the first to record this oddity of the production line worker but is as true as possible. I used to work a 46 hour shift with manditory 6 hr Saturdays. Being an inspector I noticed the amounts of production on Saturdays were about 80% of a regular 8 hr shift with less mistakes and rework!
I guess that the guys and gals were in such a good groove by Sat, their preformance was simply better.
We figgured it out, and on Saturday we made an average of $20 per shift after taxes ate their bite out! Sure was worth it for the company tho!

For many years Uberti was the standard of quality for the mass-produced Italian replica market. Not by any means perfect, and certainly not Ruger, but good quality nonetheless. The competition was Pietta, Armi San Paolo (Euroarms), Armi San Marco and Palmetto, so the bar wasn't all that high anyway.

Despite a short period of bad parts and sloppy assembly Pietta actually didn't do all that badly back then either, although they didn't come up to speed cosmetically all that often. Their reputation deservedly suffered in that bad period, however. Recently (like since 2000) Pietta has really improved their product line in all areas. They're giving Uberti a real run for the money.

But your recent experience with Uberti is not unusual. They are still capable of producing a lemon now and then but a lot more often than not they meet the higher standard.

The quality of the Italian reproductions has increased over the years. Of course there is still some quality control inspection issues, but much better than the past. You still see an occasional bad gun. You used to see a lot of bad guns. My newest Uberti is on par with 3rd Gen Colt.

Since I spend my $$$ on revolvers there isn't much left over for holsters. Here's a "frog" I made for it using some old stirrup leather a friend gave me.

Yeah I had the same experience when I got my Uberti Walker. Smooth as butter, beautiful fit and finish. NO issues. My Uberti First Model Dragoon was the same. Uberti has MY vote!!!!
