Uberti Pump Action question

A friend is looking at a new Uberti Slide Action in .45 Colt. My question is this: with the action closed and the hammer at full cock, should be action be locked closed. This one opens with minimal pressure to the rear on the slide.

I believe I read it some where, that the Uberti, does not lock back closed, in the cocked posistion, this is after you rack the action, and hammer is back. It is a copy of the Colt Lightning pump action Rifle of the late 1800s. I don't know if the original colts lock closed in battery, or not. I have never handled either.

I have a Taurus Thunderbolt in .45 colt, and it locks back in battery. The Thunderbolt, is Taurus' copy of the Colt Lightning.

I've heard sorry reports on the reliability of those Italian pump action "lightening" inspired rifles.

The Pedersoli is good from what the CAS shooters are saying. The Uberti not so much.
