Uberti 1873 SSA Frontier 44-40 from 1995 Cylinder Chamber Mouth diameter to large!!

Dear all,

As mentioned my 44-40 1892 El Tigre is doing fine with 6.5/7grain Trailboss/ or 33grain Ffg and .428 lead bullets :):)

My next challenge is now my Uberti SSA Frontier 44-40 from 1995

Its barrel is .428 BUT the cylinder chamber mouths are .434!!! :mad::mad:

With this set up none of my tests with 6.5/7grain Trailboss and .427, 428, .429 and .430 lead bullets showed any positive precision results..

Any ideas how i can solve this .434 chamber mouths problem

Forgive my aging mind but...

it seems as long as the chamber mouths are larger than the bore and the bullet is soft lead and bigger than the bore accuracy should be OK.
 
Bigbuck007, I have a third gen. Colt SAA in 44 spec. for about 30 years. Chambers were also .434 and the barrel .427. I could minimize gas cutting by using cast bullets @ .434. Borrowed a co-workers Lyman 42798 mold that cast to that size. He retired and left the area and I ran out of his bullets. I guess it's too late to make a long story short, but bought a .45 Colt barrel and cylinder and had a gunsmith replace the .44 spec.s....good luck.
 
Almost forgot, the .434 bullets were pretty accurate and Ideal's Anderton bullet worked well also, one cavity drove me crazy. My .45 Colt has .454 throats and is accurate even with soft alloy bullets that measure .4525.

Thanks for your advices. I am going tp look for .430 again as soft as possible.

++ .430 won t work in the cylinder anymore- to thick...
