U.S. Virgin Islands

I have an opportunity to relocate with my company to the U.S. Virgin Islands. I have done a google search and visited the NRA/ILA website trying to find the gun law situation there, but to no avail. My primary interests are sport shooting with shotgun, rifle and handgun. Anybody have any insight on this ? Second question, if anybody wants to share their USVI experience in general, it would be appreciated.

There is information at Packing and more at StateMaster.

From StateMaster:
"A license is required to possess, transport, or carry a firearm. A purchase coupon is issued to a license applicant when the application is approved. The weapon purchased is brought in to the firearms unit of the Virgin Islands Police Department. Information about the weapon is recorded and listed on the license issued to the applicant."

You rotten fiend!!! I'm stuck here, and you're rockin' out in the Virgin Islands!?!?! How is that fair???

Uh... I mean, congradulations! Sounds like an excellent "business decision." (grumble, grumble...)

If you find yourself in St. Thomas you would be missing a lot of fun if you stayed inside every night. Talk to the locals and find out where you can roam safely and don't worry about it.

Good things happen after sundown. Do you want to be cowering in a dark room while everyone is having a blast? I sure don't.

JWM, I had a friend who was on St. Thomas two years building an oil refinery. That was the advice he gave me based on his perception of an extremely high crime rate. Unfortunately he drank himself to death upon his return to the States. Maybe he should have lived a little larger on the island. Go for it.

After reading the laws on Packing.org, Virgin Islands look worse then Jersey and New York combined.

They don't allow you to carry .45 ACP? But allow .40? Hell kind of law is that?

Sycofrogg,
.40 S&W isn't a typical "military" round.
A number of countries outlaw the civilian use of so called "military" rounds, like the 9mm Luger and .45acp.
