U.S. gun rights at issue in UN effort

And why then does Bush retain our membership in that criminal enterprize? Continue funding them from our public purse? Allow them to be hosted on our soil?

"Critics of Vitter's bill, including Eric Howard of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, accuse the freshman senator of placating voters who oppose gun control and are cynical about the United Nations."

Interesting language. Wouldn't that be another way of saying "representing his constituents"?

I LOVE this...

At its July meeting on gun running, the United Nations released a report estimating that 500,000 people have died over the past decade from injuries caused by small weapons or guns used in crimes or military attacks. Children are frequent victims, the UN report said.

Wow - people die in Military attacks? And registering guns, or guns with "fingerprints" will help this how??

For the UN, two words...

It will help the UN confiscate OUR guns, that's how it will help. To our "friends" at the UN:

. MOLON LAVE you arrogant control freak scumbags!!! :D :D :D

bush wouldn't stand a chance in hell of getting us out of the un. nor any other president for that matter
Now you are not insinuating that George W Bush, the President of the United States, whose authority includes ending such things as UN membership with the stroke of a pen, is under some kind of control now are you? ;)

Living near the border...

"Wendy Cukier, president of Canada's Coalition to End Gun Violence, said the issue is a priority to the United States' northern and southern neighbors because 80 percent of gun crimes committed in Mexico and 50 percent in Canada involve guns that originated in the United States. Strong gun control laws in Mexico and Canada, she said, are being undermined by lax laws in the United States."

Living in Yuma, near the Mexican border, I read about and hear from other people that it's not so much the gun control laws of Mexico, but rather its corrupt government from the top on down. Here is an interesting story I remember remember reading in the Yuma Sun Newspaper. I don't remember the exact date, and have not quoted exactly from the article, but here is what I remember. A few Mexican police officers were arrested this past winter time when a family went into Mexico to visit relatives, were robbed, and one of the victims was shot in the arm. The Mexican federal police were called to investigate and went to the hospital to interview the victims. The family was shocked when the local police officers accompanying the Federales were recognized by the victims as the robbers. (Apparently, the robbers did not disguise themselves well enough!) Perhaps we can use these statistics and stories as another (very good) reason to seal our borders better.

One-word answer: VETO!

As a member of the Security Council, we can unilaterally veto any UN resolution. Like the one they're trying to pass that would abrogate our 2nd Amendment rights.

Well, if we were out of it, we wouldn't be bound by any anti-gun decision it made, anyway.

Except in the sense that they might put companies like GLOCK, Sig Sauer, Heckler & Koch, etc. out of business with binding resolutions on those nations.

Of course, they might then just start up business based in AMERICA! :D

That sounds good. But it is not the reason George is not going to wish them bon voyage on behalf of the United States.

Secondly, this lends credibility to the absurd (and dangerous) notion that the United Nations has any jurisdiction over any matter of rights or legal issues in the United States.

Lastly, the veto is not going to last. All those third world and other two-bit nations - and not without the support of many here and in Europa etc - are clamoring for democracy. One country, one vote, on equal footing.

The current status quo can not last, because these people are using our own political sticks - like the term democracy - to beat us over the head with. The elimination of veto powers at the U.N. is just a matter if time.

You can't dance with the devil and walk away.
