Typical CZ-52 accuracy

A friend of mine asked me to put his newly acquired CZ-52 through the rounds for him (he collects firearms, but doesn't particularly enjoy shooting). He wonders if he received a lemon.
He is primarily concerned with function, with accuracy a close second.

Yesterday he lent me his CZ-52 and included a box of 7.62x25 ChinaSport (Norinco) N/C FMJ ammunition.
I'll function-fire tomorrow, but I haven't the slightest clue as to what can be expected from this particular pistol design in terms of accuracy. I know this pistol isn't notorious for its accuracy, and this cheap ammunition not being conducive to accuracy. However, what can one expect at 25 yards from the CZ-52 ?
I suppose I'll find out soon enough what this example is capable of, but it would be nice to have some figures for comparison.

I told him I wouldn't expect the intrinsic accuracy of this pistol much better than 5" at that range, but hope I wasn't too far from the truth. I may also pick up a couple boxes of Sellier & Bellot ammunition as well, as I've had good experience with them in the past in various other calibers.

One other thing, is New Generation 7.62x25 ammunition truly junk, as I've heard (hard primers, horrible velocity deviation from round to round, etc) ?

Thanks in advance.

I've had better accuracy than 5" at 25 yards with my 52, a phosphated un-rebuilt model produced in 1954 using Chinasports ammo. You may find it more accurate than that. As to the Norinco ammo, it is corrosive so clean for it. Like most commie stuff, the ammo will say non-corrosive but it is. New Generation is also corrosive surplus ammo. S&B is good stuff that is not corrosive.

yes, New Generation red box(which says N/C) ammo is truly junk, it made brown rust on my cz-52, and I spent lots of time to clean it,
look for Winchester 7.62x25 in gunshop,(it might be OEM from S&B)

CZ52, very interesting (said with hvy accent). Depending on the ammo, mine is either deadly accurate or useful for crowd control. i have some surplus ammo that comes on 8-rnd stripper clips and when I fire it I need a BIG backstop and a couple spotters to see where the round goes! Have had some KEYHOLE, within 25 yards! That ammo is undersize and besides wondering where the bullet went, I get many FTFs. Think it was made for a machinepistol that fires from an open bolt that hits about like a sledgehammer. Incredible primers!

On the other hand, the commercial Sellier & Bellot ammo in the green&silver box is just fine. I will probably try some other ammo just for hoots and giggles, but the S&B looks to be the winner for my CZ52.

One thing about the CZ52. They are like red-headed wimmen, don't like to be pawed around. Either get a good friendly grip, or leave 'em alone!

taa, cs:D

CZ 52 acuracy

Some were offerred by CIA with 9mm bbls and my first one was very accurate (8 round 3") indoor range and my son could hit a milk jug at 100 yards.

My second one in 7.62 x25 was 8-round 2.25" group accurate indoors till it was danmaged during cast bullet reload development.

The third one in 7.62 x 25 with finally developed cast bullet loads is half as accurate, as I can get all magazine in a 3" bull at 30'

BUT these loudenboomers mit spitzensparken are fun to shoot and attrcact attention

I've had good luck with the New Generation ammo. No FTF or any other problems.

Also, I've never noticed any corrosion after shooting the New Generation or Norinco ammo. Maybe I just clean very carefully, but it doesn't appear to be corrosive to me. When I first heard this rumor, I got a little sick to my stomach. About 6 months earlier, I had fired a box or two of the NG ammo, cleaned my pistol as I normally do and then stored it. I pulled it out and examined the bore--clean as a whistle and shiny as ever.

Testing for accuracy with the Norinco stuff isn't going to yield great results IMO. Try the S&B.

The more I read up on the 7.62x25, the more I want a CZ52.
I didn't get the chance to pop off any rounds yet, but it won't be long.

Thanks for the info everyone. ;)

My Original condition CZ-52 will do about six inches at 100 yards with Norinco Yellow Box copper-washed steel jacket/case rounds off of my homade pistol rest.

My dad has a very good cond. non refurb gun that will group a best of -2" at 25 yds. Its almost as accurate at 50 yds....the velocity is so much, it tends to loose very little until around 100 yds. Good ammo is the challenge.
Shoot well
