Two weeks and counting!!

Two weeks and counting until my trip to Camp Whittington in Raton, New Mexico! (For those that did not see the announcement, my name was drawn from the raffle giveaway sponsored by Mothersarms.org and Gunsmoke Training Center...only because Rich forfeited his winnings! Thanks again Rich.)

Needless to say I’m getting a little more nervous as each day slips by. Any words of comfort for this housewife of 10 years and novice shooter?

I have most of my gear ready. I had to provide a pistol and ammo for the trip along with a belt, holster and magazine pouch. I look way too cool in my new gear!!! In order to break the leather belt and holster in, I carry everyday at work. Sometimes I think I scare the patrons. One customer asked me if I was in the military. :D It has been kind of nice though, carrying at work. Sometimes the men will give me grief about being a woman and won’t even let me wait on them. If I’m wearing my vest I just discreetly remove it. It’s funny how their attitude instantly changes!! ;)

I leave for my trip September 10th...I'll post before I go. Perhaps I can find someone to give an update on my adventure while I’m in New Mexico, since I don’t have a laptop. I guess I could always dictate to Rich over the phone. Are you up for being a secretary Rich? :D

Hey!! I just noticed I missed my one year anniversary with The Firing Line (July 28th)!! Lots of things have happened to me this past year. I owe so much to the TFL members who have assisted me along the way. Thanks to everyone I’ve emailed and harassed for information.

You'll do great! Through some of our conversations, you do not strike me as a novice shooter at all.

Keep your ears open. Watch what the instructors do. Above all else, have a good time!

Congrats on your upcoming trip, and your one year anniversary!

Have a great time. If you can swing it, consider taking some of those electronic muffs ... they do a great job of protecting your ears, but you'll be able to hear every word of instruction without problem. And, don't forget to take some cleaning gear, since you're be shooting all week.

Thank you Son, but I’m as green as grass when it comes to everything but shooting holes in targets.

I thought of the cleaning gear Jeff, but thanks for the heads up. *Penciling in cleaning gear to my list.*

Gutslinger, If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a hundred times. I’m always here and every other forum on the internet. You know what they say about those “quiet girls.” ;) (Did I really say that?)

Thanks for the kudos guys. I’ll have someone photograph me in a TFL T-shirt!!! As soon as I get one that is!

As a Charter Member of the Whittington Center, let me say, "Welcome!"

Some beautiful country, there at Whittington. If you have any spare time to get outside it, look for the prairie dog "town" in the area between the street curb and the parking lot curb on the north side at the KMart on the south side of Raton. And somebody at Whttington oughta know of the ghosts over at the little town of Cimarron.

Art!!! Hummmm...now my curiosity is peaked!! Saturday the 16th will be my last day and training is over at noon. I'll have most of the day before I head back to Colorado Springs and fly home on Sunday. I’m not much for venturing out by myself, but if I can find the ghosts I’ll let you know. Thank you for the welcome.

KaMaKaZe. I started 4 weeks ago at the local gun shop in our town. I really enjoy it.
 
Bah. Let me tell you all something About LadydeeJ. I went shooting with her once.. I was there to have fun and blow off steam. But I have no doubt that if we would have tried any target shooting against each other that she could have quite literally shot circles around me. She is one hell of a shot, a really nice lady. And she is kinda cute too. :P
