I just got back from the range. I was target practicing with several differant pistol. I had an expereance that was a little painful and very alarming. I had already fired several mag's through my Kimber Eclipse II, I inserted a new mag fire the first shot then fired the second about 1/10 of a second after that second shot with my finger still holding the trigger back a third shot fired raising the front of an already lifted barrel causing the rear of the slide to cut the back of my hand. what I would like to know what caused that third shot to fire. I was useing my usual reloads, 4.5Grs bullseye, under a 200Gr west Coast Bullet, and WLP primer. After retrieving the brass and inspecting it I noticed that the third shot had a very small indetation on the primer.

Any Ideas guys.

Could be that your firing pin spring is weak or that the pin, spring etc are dirty, or the pin could be catching in the slide hole or the pin stop. Also were there any marks on the primer besides the faint firing pin mark? Does your firing pin mark the primer dead center?

The pistol has only 1300 rounds through it .
I remove the firing pin and spring after evey trip to the range and clean and inspect.
The firing pin did strike in the middle of the primer which is the normal spot for this pistol. Also no other marks on the primer.

Look to your disconnect, then to the sear. Is the sear MIM? Whatever the cause I don't think I'd be carrying that thing until resolved.

I would suspect the disconnector and/or the sear, possibly the sear spring as well. If you are not familiar with the internal workings and specifications of the 1911, I would suggest a trip to a reputable gunsmith. Full-auto 1911's are not particularly desirable.

Sounds to me like a standard issue Kimber factory quality problem.

My Kimber Classic did the "two shots for one hammer drop" rountine on several occasions. The first time I thought "How interesting". Then one day on an in door range it happened twice in one box of ammo.

Bottom line, Kimber wanted it back, fast. They received it on Tuesday and I had it in my hands on Thursday. They replaced the hammer.

Don't mess with it. Get it back to Kimber (the custom shop does warrantee work). It's their problem, not yours.

By the By, Kimber service is superb.
