Two-Barrel Wear---

I have been shooting a little skeet lately and note that a lot of shooters use O/U shotguns, typically loading the lower tube only for singles.

How much, if any, extra wear occurs by habitually only shooting one bbl?

Wear on doubles usually is on the hinge parts, the breech and the firing pins. The more or less universal single trigger means no change there, tho the sear for the bbl may wear out faster than if the firing were split between the bbls.

With a quality double(the only kind worth having) this is a non issue unless you're up in the case of shells/wk club. If so, you should be inured to having the thing rebuilt every so often.

I shoot my under barrel for trap almost exclusively. It was heavily used when I got it and it went in for servicing after I'd put about 20 thousand rounds through it. The only notable difference was the bottom firing pin was a little shorter and more rounded. Other than that, no difference.

The under barrel recoils a little less due to the lower axis.
