TV Disrepair

What would've been more fun is, take the back of the tv. Remove the chassis, then remove the tube. Take aim at the anode(area where high voltage suction cup is attached) and fire away. Since the tube is vaccumed, it will let off one hellish BOOM.

I had an old Macintosh do the same thing to me.
ArmySon, back in the fifties and early sixties my dad repaired TV's. We used to take the burned out picture tubes in the backyard and throw rocks at them. As you said, they go "boom" very nicely! Tough part was scouring the grass for shards of glass.

Good point. The new ones loose the charge built up in them. (Not many people shoot new TV’s). Older models sometimes hold a charge. People have been zapped by tinkering with them. Even when they sat in the basement for a long time.

Good point. The new ones loose the charge built up in them. (Not many people shoot new TV’s). Older models sometimes hold a charge. People have been zapped by tinkering with them. Even when they sat in the basement for a long time.
If you wanna good pop:
Dismantle a disposable camera with a flash and touch off the two leads of the capacitor with a screwdriver. I'd suggest you not touch the metal of the screwdriver, and you will certainly go POP too!
