Sirs:
Doc brought up the 5 Turks; upon removing bbls we found two with 980X12 thd??? and two with1.100X12 thd!? ???
All actions were hard and had good threads.
These rifles I have no explanation for the very same actions in every detail except the threads!!! Do any of you know - except arsenal reworks or from a different plant?
We're going to make 9.3X64s.

As I understand it - and there will likely be a Turk buff along for details - they were from different contracts. The Turks bought Mausers for a long, long time with the provision that they always be the current model. Then they went through and brought everything up to the 1938 standard externally, but internal characteristics were not worth changing, some not feasible like barrel threads.

Hey Jim!
Thanks for the info - that would explain it!
thanks!
These all had tight fitting bbls. all were good and hard the two with the 1.100X12 were very hard! I think I prefer the 980X12 thd!
Douglas bbls, said they bbled. them all the time and that all were very safe.
Doc and I turned off the handguard flanges, detailed the four actions and are reads to bbl. up to 9.3X64 - can't wait to touch one off! Doc ordered me a Boyd stock for some walnut I have and all is well!
Thanks Jim.

turk 38s.

Dear Shooters:
Doc and I have selected an action and I've got it threaded 1.100X12.
There is only .500 total depth on the 1.100 actions but the shank threaded fine and got a class 3 fit - screwed up great and have it mounted in the lathe to chamber Thurs! Can't wait till I get it together, load a round and touch that baby off. Doc looked it up and with a 300 gr bullet it gives 5,000 fps. of energy.
I truly advocate the European calibers, the big bores - recoil is nice and it punches that great big hole in stuff.
Hooray! HarryB.
PS:
Great rifle for Ohio with our water buffalo, Gemsbock, lion and Leapord!

The large ring actions are most likely rearsenaled with a portion of the reciever ring machined out to make a handguard lip. I would use those for something like 6.5x55 or 7x57.

The small ring m98 actions (marked K.Kale) are plenty strong enough for the 9.3x62, and the lipped large ring actions are probably strong enough as well, but I wouldn't use them.

I'm extremely cautious by nature, so take it as you will.

Jimro
