Turkish Mauser bolt.

Can anyone recommend a way to bend the bolt of a 1938 Turkish Mauser without using one of those cut and drill kits. I have liited access to a welder and torch, but am searching for the simplest way possible that still looks tasteful.

Due to injuries from Iraq I have not yet recovered the dexterity to work the straight bolt again. Doing fine with all other firearms, this one just feels awkward.

Steve Wagner's site gives good instructions. FWIW, the best heat sink I ever used was a piece of copper ground rod, which you can get at most electrical supply stores. Use plenty of paste to keep oxygen from the rest of the bolt. I also wrapped wet rags around the bolt head as a double precaution. You can use a checkering file on the bottom of the bolt handle for an extra nice touch.

I always recommend forging the bolt handle down because, in my experience, too many "weld on" bolt handles come off under stress. (Yes, I know YOU can do a great weld job, but those other guys seem to have trouble.)

The equipment cost will not be insignificant, and for a one time job I would take it to a gunsmith who already has the equipment. The usual charge is $30-50, depending on the locale.

Thanks guys.

Will probably check out the local smiths. I wish I didn't have to do it at all, but I just don't have the dexterity. A bent bolt lets me "hook" on to something. Hopefully I'll have full range of motion back in a few months, but don't want to wait that long for my favorite milsurp. :D
