Turkish Forestry Carbine

I picked this up yesterday at a show. It's made from a 1907 15 French Berthier rifle for the Turkish forestry in 1948. Caliber is 8mm Lebel and requires a special 3 round clip. Still has the 1950 dated sling.

I have owned and traded a number of Berthiers over the years. There are many variations. I enjoy shooting these rifles and PPU ammo is available if you want to shoot yours.

I have one of those rifles also. The 5 round clips work just as well; but they do stick out the bottom.

I have a stock that I think might also be Turkish. It has a couple stamps on the butt plate that made me think that. Now, looking at this rifle, they have the same groove in the side of the stock.

Is that groove an identifier of some sort where a weapon might have originated from?
