Turkish Firearms?

I will be visiting Turkey in September. Daughter, her husband and 3 grandchildren are there. It will likely be my only visit to a foreign country. Rather than buy the typical rugs and other tourist type of stuff I would like to have a Turkish firearm as a keepsake. While it's possible to arrange for a purchase in a foreign country there is so much red tape involved it would be much easier to pick out a type and brand in Turkey then purchase back here in the US.

Keep in mind that it would be a keepsake mostly wall hanger type of firearm. Maybe the occasional plinking session. So with this in mind, is there a particular brand or such that I can do a little research on before I get there? My "Google-Fu" research seems to only come up with air rifles.

Thanks in advance!

There are shotguns made over there you will not see here. Although some US names are having Turkish gun firms make some of their shotguns, it is by no means the Turkish companies' only business.

I did a few TDYs over there in 2002 and brought back Huglu shotguns. I will tell you their 103 model looks similar to some US imported ones, but the level of scrollwork on the metal, metal coloring, etc, are nowhere close on the imports compared to what I bought! In addition, they were a fraction of the price there as over here. They also offered factory lazer engraving on the wood with whatever you brought to them as a design.

Talking to folks who've been TDY over there more recently, the prices have gone up a bit, but are still less than here.

Not sure if you will have time or inclination, but boar hunting over there is pretty fun!

There is the Tri-Star shotgun, but they are a big and clumsy gun of dubious quality. You might want to check out the Weatherby SA-08 Entre Rios, a nice trim 28 gauge shotgun that is Turkish made.

If you live near an Academy Sports and Outdoors store, they handle the Yldiz line of shotguns that are made in Turkey.....priced $400 to $1300, which are side X sides or over/unders.

Darn If I can remember the name on it, but last X-Mas, honored my daughers request for a pistol and bought a Turkish made 9mm CZ75 clone at Academny for her and her husband. As I recall, one of lower priced 9mms Academny sold. Took it to range to test and 20 rounds later, came away impressed with the pistol. Nice trigger, good fit to my hand, and the cheapest 9mm ammo Academny had, fed flawlessly in it.

Oops, just noticed you live in Idaho, so forget about Academny stores as they are only in the southern states.

I know the cz usa shotguns are made in turkey, and ive heard theyre very good. Theres another brand that i know about, Hatsan, they make shotguns and air guns.

Just a word of caution.

I worked for a defense contractor and one of the senior marketing reps related this story.

He was trying to convince a Turkish General to purchase a weapon. Ours was more expensive than the competitions but much safer.

His response was "We have lots of soldiers but little money" We did not get the contract.

Make sure what ever you buy is of good quality. produced to acceptable metallurgical standards.

I picked up a Girsan 1911 made to NATO specs in a computer operated factory in Turkey. It is a beautiful firearm, government model, and since I live in CT and they want me to report the 10s of mags I have for the Glocks, cz 75b and mini 14 and even the 10/22, I am switching to all 1911s with 7 or 8 round mags. If you see the guy with the huge bulge in the side of his tee shirt, yes...that will be me.

Stoeger

I have a Stoeger Couger in a .40 and its a great pistol.I have wondered about there shotguns and the cz's.I read mixed reviews on them. But there older post.
