How is turkey hunting in florida?

Where are the best spots in Florida?

How does turkey hunting in Florida compare to other states?

In the central/southern portion of the state you have the "Osceola" strain of bird and is considered a real smart, tuff bird to hunt. They are known for a longer leg as they are swamp savvy. Populations in florida are generally high but predation in pockets will limit the offspring greatly. Florida is a popular turkey hunting state.

The turkeys have made a big comeback in the last 40 years. According to the NWTF we have Osceolia starin here in St. Johns county. They are long and lean and they will wander through the water just like a deer or hog, even though I think calling a gobbler through a we swamp would be hard.

What is a worry, as was mentioned, is that we have got a growing coyote population in the state. Where as 10 years ago we never saw one here on the east side of the St. Johns river near St. Augustine now they are a regular occurence. Can't imagine that they are not turkey eaters from the word go...............

Yep, Osceola's are very wary. The biggest problem with turkey hunting in Fl is finding land to hunt. Turkey's are VERY sensitive to hunting pressure. If the land gets too hunted they will leave. Watch out for snakes and don't forget your Thermocell.
