Turkey For Tactical?

I've been looking for a general use shotgun. Home defense, and maybe an occasional three gun.
Since I would prefer adjustable sights, I've considered a cylinder bore slug gun. But I have seen good prices on turkey guns (Mossberg). I like the fiber optic sights and the shortish barrel. Not so thrilled at the camo finish, but what the heck.
I know that the choke would probably need to be changed or removed, but what I'd like to know is if there is some disadvantage to these shotguns for tactical use.

Thanks

I think the turkey models are 24" barrels. I know my rifle sight barrel is. You're better off either buying a regular Mossberg then buying a 18 barrel or buying that combo IMO. 24" is ok but 18" is much more handy in tight quarters.

Several turkey guns from Mossberg have 20" barrels, including both the "Grand Slam Turkey" and "Tactical Turkey" series. They come with chokes, vent ribs, and hi-viz sights. And yes, IMO they would make excellent tactical shotguns for two-legged game while still giving you some very good field use options. In fact, I bought an 835 Grand Slam Turkey last year with exactly the same dual-use idea in mind.

Several years ago Georgia DNR purchased the 21" Remington 870 turkey guns for their rangers to use. They removed the plugs and replaced the turkey choke with IC tubes. They were cheaper than the combat versions and with the barrels threaded for interchangeable tubes could be more versatile. The game wardens I know like them just fine.

My personal SD shotgun has a 20" IC barrel with rifle sights and I do not feel the extra 1.5" is a handicap at all. I actually prefer it to 18.5"
