Trying to ID old cartridges

First off if this in the wrong forum, sorry Mods, feel free to move it just figured this would be the best place to get lots of views.

My wifes grandmother was cleaning her closet and gave me some old ammo that was laying around, mostly some old hunting rifles shells and some leftover handgun ammo (32, 357 mag)... Anyway in the pile was a small cardboard box holding 16 rounds of ammo. I am trying to ID it, it appears to be old and maybe german. I am thinking it is 9mm but since I don't have a 9mm I can't tell for sure. I took some pics but my camera doesn't like to do closeups I guess :-)

The shells are labeled: "14 44 am st+"

The box label is not easily readable but what I was able to pick up is fragments:

" -patronen 08" and "1944 am 30" and "08 -1912 faa 298-"

Can anyone tell me what they are?

I'm going to take a wild stab, and say it's WWII-vintage German military 9mm Parabellum ammo. It looks like there's lots of printing on the box label; can you get a decent pic of that?

Dang jalbuquerque that was quick! Great page, confirms this is German made 9mm pistol ammo, thanks again! Makes a cool conversation piece (especially now that I know what it is):D
