Trying to find Winchester Stealth in 308

I've only seen one in a gunstore. Looked and
felt nice. It has the push-feed instead of the
claw if that matters to you. The price was
somewhere over $600 (Either $610 or $650, can't
remember). I've had another gunshop tell me
he could get it for $600, but I don't know if
there is a back order or not. BTW, I'm in
tacoma, washington.

Howard,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have been looking for some info on the Stealth in 308. I have found a few for sale in 22-250 and 223 on Gun broker and Auction Arms. Your right the price is between $600.00 and $650.00. I was thinking about buying a Remington PSS or a VS in 308 but the price was to high. I guess I'll contact some local stores and see what price they will have.

Thanks again for the reply, by the way I'm in Augusta, GA.

Jim,
I don't know if $700 is considered too high, but
that was the price Hoplite was selling the PSS for
in shotgun news. I bought the LTR (20" barrel
version) from them for $750, but the regular version
is cheaper. Look for them in shotgun news if you
are interested. The stealth, I suspect, is meant
to compete more with the remington VS, which is in
the same ballpark pricewise.

Howard

Yes I have priced the LTR and that was the range I found also. Have you had good success with the LTR thus far? I have been looking at them also but I decided to go with a longer barreled gun instead.

I have only heard good reports when it comes to a rifle build on a Remington action.

Tha last two bolt guns I had were two Sakos one in a heavy barrel and 308 and the other a forester in 308. I got both while stationed in germany in the early 1990.

I just got off the phone with a store here in town and they quoted me $589.00 thats if the rifle was in stock at the distributer. At that price I still have about $450.00 to put toward the scope and mount.

Thanks again

Jim

Jim,
That sounds like a good price, maybe I should
start on my second bolt gun... :-)

I'm still waiting for my rings to come in, so my LTR
isn't even set up yet. I was planning on posting
when I get it all together, since I had asked the
forum on help on the gun, scope, rings, etc...

LTR's, & Stealth .308's

4papa1,
the LTR's, if you can buy a BDL model of the Rem, in .308 caliber for $589.00.....get several.........as this is below dealer cost.
If it's a DM model, run from it.
The .308 Stealth's are back in Wholesalers wharehouses now, I found one WS, that had 7 in stock, Saturday.
price $ 600.00...plus tax.
And it (the Stealth), is not closest to the VS, it's a head on collision with the PSS series rifles.
It is a VERY good looking piece, and has a great stock, in the HS Precision Win 70 Marksman config, and the best part of all...is it has a REAL heavy weight barrel.....not a Varmint contour.
I have not heard 1 complaint on the Stealths...I wish I could say the same for the PSS series............
So you don't think this is a slam on REM, that's ALL I own, but the next rifle I purchase will be the .308 Stealth.......
Color me "Tired of warranty work, and sending rifles back to the factory".
Maybe, Win has their ACT together.............

Tshoes,

I got with another store here and they found a 308 stealth for $599.00. The guy has already called and ensured that one of their distributers had one in stock. I think your right the Winchester has all the trappings of a PSS at about 100 dollars less. Tomorrow I'll go down and put a deposit on it so it can be ordered.

Thanks you guys for the replies.

Listen to Tshoes, the Stealth hasn't gotten the word of mouth it deserves. Everything I've heard about the things is positive.

I might know where Tshoes is coming from, if we've both seen the reports and we're both coming from the same place all these reports are coming from a group of the biggest knit-picking types you ever saw(good thing!), and they are more than willing to let you know about a gem when they've find it. Listening to some of those guys the Stealth is that factory gem.

It's funny, you go into most gun shops and ask about a Winchester Stealth and they look at you like you're stupid. I keep trying to tell the local shop that they need to supplement that line of PSS rifles they have hanging up on their peg boards with a couple of Winchester Stealths. Can't wait to get my grubby finger prints all over one.

Oh, geez....I have a pre ban really wood stock on what is now called a Stealth. Go figure, 300-500 yards and you need a black plastic stock :(
View
Last time I checked the target did't know the color of the stock.
I would say get a Savage 10FP for now and maybe forever. Seems Winchester has gone scarce.
A Savage 10fp will do you an awesome job :) better question, can you shoot it to what it a capable of :p I bet not. I will never out shoot anything I have, new scope, nex trigger, new this or that......they made the rifle and they made me the tester. So I buy another rifle and darm them guys at......we wont say.
Get you a Ruger 10FP and learn to shoot it. Get a good scope and stay away from boards that have anything to do with AR's or M1A's :( they will cost you money.
Ask me, I know. 3 NIW mags $120.00, 20 beat up mags for ar $300.00.
Hand loads for my Model 70, PRICELESS :)

Black Plastic stock

Karsten,
no flame intened.....but the HS stock on the Stealth is more than just a plastic stock.
You got a beaut there, but it will change POI, if the weather turns on you, and it gets wet....heat, cold, etc.
The HS Stealth rifles will not.
And, yes there are some of us that can shoot to capabilities if our rigs........
The term "On any given Saturday", comes to mind......

Tshoes, no offense taken and none ment either. All that polymer, Zytel, synthitic stuff is plastic to me...Just sorta lump sum catagory. I was sort making a joke with the Pre Ban wood stock as opposed to the Plactic ones ;)
As you probably guessed weather is not a factor with me, that thing only goes out on special days, nice ones :p As for your stating that you can shoot to the capabilities of your rifle, I can only offer this. You sir are in dire needs of a NEW rifle to compete against again ;) What better excuse for a new gun, "But Honey, I can shoot better than that one is capable of anymore, Honest I needed this one" I wonder if they would ever buy that one

Karsten

New Rifle Karsten........

Karsten ......re-read my post.....I said SOME of us can shoot to the capabilities of our gear....I didn't SAY I could!!!!!!!!!.
You actually think I'd set myself up for that ONE!!!!!!>>>>>>>>>>>,,,,,,,,,,,,HAH!!!!!!

Tshoes
You missed My point, I was trying to get you a NEW rifle. Like in this old thing is just no good and you need something new ;)
