Trying to date my firearm

Ok, so I am extremely new to handguns, but I inherited 2 of my fathers pistols. One is a 1960 Beretta Mod. 950B, .22 short Minx, made in 1960. That one was easy.

The other is a little tougher. Its a Smith and Wesson snub nose .32 long revolver. I'm trying to date it, but have struck out so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The serial number is 574XXX.

Maybe take it out to dinner first. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Have you checked smith and wesson's website to see if they have a serial number lookup?

Is it swing out cylinder or break top? Are you sure it's a Smith and Wesson revolver and not just chambered in 32 Smith and Wesson? If it's a break top of any sort it's old. I think they stopped making swing out 32 longs back in the 70s or 80s, not sure.

After all that "courting" that's been suggested . . . you shouldn't have any problem asking it out for a drive in your car . . just tell it you want to take it for a "spin" . . . . ;)

Good pictures would help a great deal, or at lest what the markings are and where they are on the revolver. With only the serial number to work with if it is a Smith and Wesson it may be a pre model 30, .32 hand ejector or maybe a .32 Regulation Police pre model 31. Year made probably 1947-1951 somewhere. Really need more to work with for this to be any more than a guess though.
