I got this today in my e-mail! I do not know if its the truth or some BS, but I do know these 2 things. 1. I have already written to my US Rep. 2. If it is true they can put their ruby red lips where the sun dont shine on me and kiss! .............................Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2000 1040 federal tax form
all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints and a tax of $50
per gun.
This bill was introduced on Feb. 24. This bill will become public knowledge
30 days after it is voted into law. This is an amendment to the Internal
Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance
Committee can pass this without the Senate voting on it at all. The full
text of the proposed am: hand gun registration
I am passing this along to all of those that I know who are concerned
citizens. It doesn't matter whether you support gun ownership or not -- it
is a matter of standing up for your rights no matter what your belief .
We received the following from a friend of ours in Washington, D.C.
endment is on the U.S. Senate home page. http://www.senate.gov/ You can
find the bill by doing a search by the the bill number, SB-2099.
You know who to call; I strongly suggest you do. Please send a copy of
this e-mail to every gun owner you know to help STOP this bill!!

The complete text of this bill follows: Taken directly from link provided
below. If you go to site be sure to enter exactly SB-2099

Handgun Safety and Registration Act of 2000 (Introduced in the Senate)

Hello. SB2099 is real. It was introduced in February. It was being watched everyday to make sure it didn't "move." It was transferred to the Senate Finance Committee where it has not moved, nor is it expected to move this session of Congress. It will not become law so long as pro-Freedom candidates remain in the majority of at least one house of congress or Bush gets elected. IF the antis get control of congress and especially if this occurs with Gore being elected, I wouldn't be surprised to see life breathed into it.

It was introduced by Sen. Reed (D-RI).

For what it's worth, IRS says that they want no part of it as they have enough bad press as it is.

Best.

OK, here's the Poop.

1. Yes, this piece of legislation does exist.

2. It has been sitting in the Senate Finance Committee since February.

3. The Committee Chairman shows NO signs of scheduling it for discussion or a vote.

4. Without No. 3 happening, it DIES in committee when Congress adjorns.

5. The Senate Finance committee CANNOT pass anything into law. That assertion is complete and utter bull****.

6. In order for this piece of legislation to become law and become effective, it would have to:

A. Be released by the Senate Finance Committee.

B. Be voted in the Senate. If it passes, it would:

C. Be passed to the House, where it would have to be introduced there. Invariably, the House version is very very different than the Senate version.

7. If the House were to pass it, the two versions of the bill would go to a House/Senate conference committee, which would write a compromise version of the bill.

8. Once compromised, it would go BACK to the House and Senate. If it passes both houses, it would:

9. Go to the President.

I'll say it again. NO COMMITTEE can make changes to standing US Law. Our system of government simply does not work like that.

Chances are he knows how to use it.

Just out of curiosity, why would you post this identical question in so many forums?

With all due respect, please consider using TFL's search feature next time ... you'll find a ton of discussion on this.

Sorry about this. I should have checked your forum before I popped this topic off H & R and into this one.

How rude of me. Sincere apologies.
