Truth in Voting

I think it's time for national truth in voting. I'm not convinced elections are won by popular vote. I feel as if the people just go through the motions and accept whatever the outcome as fair and just. Those who are legally eligible to vote should need to show ID. If I have to give a thumb print to buy a gun in California and prove I live at my address, why can't we have a national thumb print database the verifies each voters identity and a computer system that keeps people from voting multiple times. Acorn showed how elections are bought with the same people voting multiple times using many different names. With provisions of the voters rights act being struck down, why can't we require legal ID and proof of residency to vote in every state and locality?

I don't understand the furor. I'm nearly 70 years old. I registered to vote as soon as I turned 18, and as best I can remember I have always had to show ID when voting. IMHO that's the way it should be. I am only allowed one vote, so I want my vote to be MY vote. And I don't want my one vote to be outweighed by some scum bag who votes two or three times, or who isn't eligible to vote but does so anyway.

The furor is coming from the side of the argument who don't want this to be the law of the land. Each state has different laws in regards to this. Like you, here in Michigan, I need to show my ID every time I show up to vote. In some states, not the case. It allows for people who are dependent on government to be able to vote for presumed more government. What they don't realize is that at some point government will become too big for the numbers on their systems and the rest of us will no longer be able to support the system and collapse will be imminent. Society has changed into a what's in it for me mindset and that's how people are voting. Not what makes the most sense, but how can I get the most for the least. At least that the view from the cheap seats that I sit in.

We have already seen bad language and politics. I fear that this one will become a rant fest.

Thus, I'm closing it and staff will discuss if it can continue.

PS - staff discussion has determined we see no good coming from this thread as regards our mission at TFL. Thus, it remains closed.
