Truncated Cone Pistol Ammo

I ordered a thousand rounds of Fiocchi 124 gr. 9mm FMJ but was shipped 124 gr. FMJTC.

What is the low down on truncated cone 9mm ammo. Does this stuff have any properties that makes it more desirable than regular 9mm FMJ round nose? Does it have any properties that makes it less desirable than 9mm FMJ round nose ammo?

Thanks,
Glenn B

I've fired issued truncated cone .40cal HP's out of my various service pistols over the years and never had a problem. They were usually the older Federal, Winchester, and Remington Gold Dots (that shot out a three foot flame) in the 155gr variety. Their profile is similar to the rounds you purchased except that the ones I shot have a hollow cavity and in my opinion are probably more apt to malfunction. In general you could argue that that profile would be less reliable because of the shoulder toward the tip of the bullett, but that hasn't been my experience. So, all things being equal, you should have no problem shooting them out of any good quality modern automatic, but that's certainly no guarantee all your pistols will shoot them accurately and reliably. Clear as mud, eh?:D

The meplat (flat nose) of the TC causes blunt force destruction and you will get fantastic straight-line penetration. Also, TC tends to feed well.

I use in 9mm and experience no problem with feed in a S&W 3913. I do not see that they would be infearior to a RM shape, and might even get better expansion.

The main advantage to a trunicated cone is that it is somewhat less likely to yaw or riccochet than a RN. The disadvantage is that some older pistols may not be completely reliable with them as their feed ramps were designed for FMJ-RN only. As a general rule, if your gun will function reliably with a wide variety of JHP's then it will probably do just fine with FMJ-TC as well. Either way, I'd use them for range fodder and carry JHP's.
