Truly settled on your carry gun?

This kinda goes with a couple other recent threads concerning "true love" and "first love". I find myself waffling alot on my carry pistol. I really like the Glock P/T models (G34,G35) and am currently carrying a G35, but I sometimes question my choice. I really don't see myself carrying anything other than a Glock these days. A surprising admission to say the least because if you had told me I would be writing that previous statement a year ago I'd have laughed in your face. Anyway, I also have a .357 barrel for the G35 and I also own a G34 with full capacity mags all around (34-17rnds, 35/.357-16rnds, 35/.40-15rnds). A Glock is a Glock and I shoot them all with equal skill though the longer sight radius of the P/T models helps me shoot a bit better which is why I have decided on one of them at least for the colder weather. I may start carrying the G34 as follow up shots are slightly faster.

Then again that damned Hi Power keeps looking at me funny...

How many of you are "locked in" on your carry gun? Ever thought of cheating on her?

Nope. I carry a Glock 26 or a Kahr MK9. As soon as I can get good leather for it, my Glock 17 will become a companion as well. Prior to that, my Sig 229 was my carry piece.

However, I have my heart set on a 1911 pattern as a carry gun. After that, I'll probably find something else as well.

I can use all of the above effectively, and the manual of arms is sufficiently similar (except on the Sig which I don't carry anymore) that I don't believe I'll run into any problems. My grip on all of them is such that I would naturally engage the 1911 safety.

Carrying weapons with extremely different methods of operation (i.e. revolver vs. auto) can cause problems but if they are similar (Sig DAO vs. Glock), I don't see much of an issue.

I prefer to carry a 1911a1 type pistol, most often my Colt Lightweight Officer's ACP, but as we've had some cooler weather I've taken to the full sized Kimber. It's what works best for me.
There are times when a smaller gun may be necessary and I'll carry either the Kahr K9 or the Kel-Tec P32.
But my preference is for the 1911.. Mark / FL

Where's the fun in "settling?"

Mine's a constant search for better and better. Keeps it interesting and is a good excuse for buying more stuff! :)

After acouple of test runs my carry is now my 1991a1 Compact. I also have a NAA mini for times when I'm not supposed to be carrying

I've carried a 6", "N" frame Smith in either a model 57 or 29 for over twenty years and have never thought of changing. I guess you could say I'm locked in. ;)

I probably would be better served if I did settle on one. But I switch around. My Kahr MK9 is now my primary carry gun, replacing my Kahr K40 in that role. But sometimes I carry a S&W 642, because of the ease of slipping it into a pocket. For the times that the 642 is just too big, I carry an NAA Guardian.

But some other times, I carry an M1911, either my full-size Kimber, or my Kimber Compact (which is currently receiving some attention at a gunsmith).

Why carry the same gun all the time. I'll carry whatever when the mood hits. Right now the one I like the most is my Glock 27. But there are days I may carry my 8040 or my .380
Bersa. Even carry my Colt DS and my S&W 37 sometimes. :) Whatever strikes my fancy for the day ;)
Happy Shooting :)

I have settled on a Glock 23, but.... I switch to my KKM .357SIG barrel in it most of the time. If I want to change for some reason I swap the barrels and mags. But I always carry the same gun...

I frequently rotate on my carry gun.

In the winter I tend to carry an S&W Model 19 2.5" or an HK P7M13 in a shoulder holster.

When it's warmer tend to carry an S&W 042 .38 (which I got just a few weeks ago), or a Taurus TP22.

I also carry a Kahr K9 frequently.

I've also carried my S&W Model 19 4" in a shoulder holster.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

In a word, no.

Ranges from NAA .22 WMR mini to .45 ACP 1991A1 Commander, and includes slight oddities like 7.62X25 Tokarev. Depends on how I'm dressed and where I'm going.

Right now, I'm in London, U.K., just about to head back to the States tomorrow so I'm carrying a pocket full of keys and a handbook of harsh language :( .

I wanted to carry a 1911 soooooo bad. And then one IDPA match I shot my FEG hi-power DOH!. Oh well at least i can use the same holster.

I am dedicated to a similar manual or arms for all my carry guns.

They are: Kel-Tec P32, Kel-Tec P-11, Glock 26, and soon (maybe) a Kahr P-9.

All share the same operating features/control layout. To me, that is or primary importance.

Beware even more aware of the man who owns many guns as that means he probably shoots more than the man who owns one gun and probably knows how to use all of them well.

Funny how many people despise the Glock and then end up falling in love with them and carrying them. ;)

Anyway, my "one gun" is the Glock 30. I carry it all the time, just about 24 hours a day.

On the very rare occasion that I just can't conceal it, I go with something else (Kahr P9, mini Glock).

I switched around for a while and settled on the G30. I shoot it a lot, have lots of loaded magazines for it, and I can hit very well with it at all ranges and all circumstances. It is %100 reliable and rust proof, accurate and lightweight blah blah blah. I like it, shoot it a lot, and I like the fact that it is like my best friend and I use it so much that it is like an extension of my hand. I like sticking with one gun. I shoot it SO MUCH better than when I used to switch around.
When I used to switch around, I could shoot most of my guns quite well and I could bascially take any one of them and make it perform well. But, sticking with one gun, it is like my gun and I have become one. I don't just shoot it well, I shoot it exceptionally well in all conditions. I mean, I can pull it out and bring it up to the target and the sights are right on, every time, even with my eyes closed. It is like an extension of my hand. At longer ranges, I know just how to adjust the sights for trajectory and all that stuff. My split times are synched perfectly for double taps, my reloads are clean, and all that stuff. You just can't get really good with a gun when you are switching around all the time. I guess that is why some guys stick with a 1911.
Anyway, you can see that you open my ramble-box because I really like sticking with one gun, and after switching around for so many years, I appreciate it even more. It is like a new concept for me because I drifted for so long.

I have found that I can carry my Glock 30 in a belly band or IWB on the hottest days under even just a tank top and shorts. But, being a pretty big guy helps in that regard.

I'm with Irwin and 9x19!

It depends. My carry arsenal ranges from a Kel Tec P-32 for when I can't carry a 9mm or a 45 acp to a Glock 26/30 and a HK P7 PSP hard chromed (really thin).

It depends on how I feel and what the risk may be be. I dress accordingly.

what are you folks doing carrying full-sized weapons and 1911s?

The size makes concealment difficult for most.

I'd stick to compacts or smaller.

Carrying a full-size is a matter of a good holster/belt combo, and mindset.

There are a lot of advantages to a full-size: best possible sight radius, more controllable on average, highest possible capacity, and often more reliable. Plus, the sense of security you get from a "biggun".
