What's the initial word on this new line of bullets.
They have this 44 cal 310g WNFP-GC with a hardness of 24!
I wonder if that means it's brittle?....

From the website:
"..The term “terminal ballistics” takes on new meaning with the True Shot line of heavyweight Wide Nose magnum handgun bullets. Made from Oregon Trail’s ultra-tough 24 BHN Silver alloy, our 310g .44 is absolutely the hardest-hitting solid you can load, with unmatched accuracy and extended bore life compared to other ordinary bullets. For maximum penetration on the heaviest game, this is the handgun bullet to beat, and is the ideal bullet for 44 Magnums..."

Ordered them, loaded them, shot them.

The advertised 310gr bullets actaully averages 304.6gr.
I weighed 10 bullets and averaged them. Not one bullet weighed over 306 grains. I checked my scale with my usual 180gr bullets and the scale is accurate.

My intent was to achieve 1000ft.lbs of energy with a "heavy" 44mag bullet from my S&W 4" 626-4 Mountain Gun. With Hornandy's 270gr Jacketed soft point bullet I was at max with H110 (21.5gr) and only achieving a velocity of 1160 from the lightweight revolver. I was still searching for more power. I was hoping a lead bullet would give me the edge,...more velocity,... less friction....I was right.

Along with the bullets I ordered from Oregon Trails, they included "load data". The data listed the 310gr bullet using 21gr of H110 so thats where I started.

Three shots over the chrono with the 305gr bullets averaged 1175.46 fps. That equates to 935.65 ft.lbs of energy from the beautiful N-frame and is just what I was looking for.
The cases ejected effortlessly, the primers look fine. I think I found my ultimate Mountain Gun load. Accuracy tests will seal the deal, I have my fingers crossed.
