Truck Safe

Well first off I want to thank playboypenguin for all the posts and threads about the install of his safe. I decide after reading his posts that I too wanted more security for my weapon. Especially if I go and visit someone at the Hospital or any government building. Again, like PBP, I didn't put this safe in to store my firearm for an extended period of time. Just to thwart the smash and grabs.
I intalled the safe in my 2000 Chevy Extended Cab. Since I have a 3 door truck, I decided to mount the safe so I could access it from the passenger side. I also have it mounted so when the rear set is up, I can access the safe from a seated position from the drivers side.
With the back seat down, you can see from the pics it is barely visible. As soon as I stop by an upholstery shop, and get some foam for the inside, I will update with pics.

I am sharing this with all the members of TFL so everyone can see a different application.

Any constructive comments are welcome.

Again, many props to PBP for the idea!!!!

I bought the safe from Dicks sporting goods. $50, and it is bolted thru the floor with carriage bolts. Install took 30 minutes!

Nicely done. I've got the same pistol safe ensconced in a bathroom cabinet on the first floor of my home - serves as storage for my EDC and ensures I have a gun readily accessible on that floor when I'm at home (I don't carry around the house)...

Also got it at Dick's Sporting Goods - $50, IIRC, but only $40 with a Dick's Rewards coupon...

Yeah I tried that. The guy behind me had a rewards card and let me use it but it didn't discount it any?

I like the bathroom idea. any pics you could share?

It was a coupon I received for having used my rewards card on previous purchases. I think you get $10 coupon in the mail for every $300 you spend there. Before I started reloading, I'd take advantage of the ammo sales there so the $300 was pretty easy to reach.

Sure, I can take a pic when I get home tonight...Pretty simple setup. It's bolted to the wall inside a cabinet.

I am thinking about hingeing a mirror in my hallway, and recessing a safe there. MAy make for another cool install!

Thanks!!! Unfortunately, I have been trying to cut foam to go in it like yours. I have tried using HR foam but I believe I need something a little stiffer. I am going to check out a couple of websites tomorrow for closed cell foam that they use for camera cases.
I went by a local marine shop that does upholstery work. I asked if they had any foam that you had described. All they had was HR foam. So I guess I am going back to the online drawing board.

Thanks sserdlihc!

That is exactly what I'm looking for! Something for temporary storage when I can't carry inside a building for some reason but can still access it quickly.

I'll have to check out the local stores and see if they have something similiar.

Will do some on-line searching tonight also.
