Tru Oil

Pure tung oil! Personally, I think it's better than linseed oil but neither are very waterproof.

I say if you can't find TruOil around, you are not looking very hard. There is a Big 5 in Kirkland, a Dick's Sporting Goods in Renton, and WalMarts every other block, you can find it somewhere. If not, order it from Midway.

I like Minwax brand Tung Oil finish. It is not pure tung oil. It is really more of a wiping varnish.

I am using Fromby's high gloss tung oil. I remember using that a long time ago and you are right. There is nothing nicer than a hand burnished tung oil piece of wood. I am doing my grandson's Winchester Model 69A and some gun handles I made of Cocobolo for one of my Ruger revolvers.
Thanks again for all your help and yes there are a lot of Big Five stores around but none of them had any tru Oil.

Careful!
I read that oily wood especially like cocobolo doesn't do well with the pure organic oils. You might need Tru-oil or Formby's!

cocobolo is very hard close grained like rosewood or ebony. The wood itself polishes up very well on its own. sand it down to 1500, then polish it on a wheel. once its polished, wax it if you need it to be water resistant

Use a Polymerized tung oil and your best source would be a woodworking supply store. I build furniture and finish many of my pieces with it. Unlike BLO and pure tung oil, it cures completely and is more water resistant. Sutherland Wells and J.E. Moser are good choices.
