Tru Oil/Armor All?

Picked up two "New" to me 22's today. A Marlin Model 60 and a Winchester Model 190.

Plan to refinish both of these stocks with Tru Oil this weekend. I'm working the whole time but hope to stay up late both nights working on them.

I have done a marlin 1895 in the past. Stripped it down from the crappy camo paint job the original owner put on it and did 12 coats of tru oil.

What are your guys experiences with Tru Oil and Armor All? I have heard good things about the combination. Plan to also do a set of Ruger single six grips off one I also just picked up.

Tru Oil just by itself works pretty darn well, I am not sure why some folks feel a need to speed it up . . . Oh well. I am not sure what the long-term effect of the ArmorAll will be on the TruOil, so I guess I will just leave it alone. If you want to speed up TruOil, try the spray. It dries within minutes.

I have used Tru-Oil and Armor All on my .22

Works great. The Armor all alows you to add multiple coats in a short time. I am very pleased with the results.
That 1895 looks great.

could someone explain
ArmorAll accelerates TruOil (probably any catalyzed oil finish) drying so subsequent coats can be applied quickly. It also gives a very hard "shell" so the stock polishes out very nicely.

Thanks Rottie! I had a good job working on it. Was one of the first few rifles I purchased when I turned 18 :D.

Has anyone used this finish plus armor all? Going to give it a try this weekend and hopefully I can get some pictures up to show the final product.

When I refinished a stock I hung it in a cool basement to slow drying time. The reasoning behind it was for it to cure completely between coats, 10 coats, about a day and a half between each. It looks nice but my theory might be a load of crap. Let us know how the armor all works if you try it.
