Trouble with trigger pull during rapid fire

A shot a friends Beretta 92FS today at a range that allowed rapid fire. I loaded the mag and chambered a round. The trigger was in SA mode now *I guess*. Well anyway, I started to pull the trigger as fast as I could. The trigger was real easy to pull. Next thing you know, I shot a round in DA mode and the next round till the end was SA again. How in the heck did it go from SA to DA and back to SA? You follow??

You probably short-stroked the trigger.

Remember, that Beretta needs a bit of time for the hammer to fall, the slide to go back, come forward, strip a round from the magazine--you get the picture.

In your case, I think you may have pulled the trigger before the pistol was back in battery.

That, or the full-cock notch on your sear is worn.

LawDog,
This Beretta is brand new. <50rds put in it.
I think I short-stroked it. Does this in anyway hurt the gun? I might be buying myself a 92FS in the near future.

No, short-stroking the trigger doesn't hurt the pistol. I wouldn't make it a habit if I were you.
