Trouble unloading Nagant Revolver

Hello,

I just took my nagant revolver shooting for the first time yesterday and I had trouble unloading the empty shells. I am using surplus 7.62x38r. I first tried using the rod on the gun but the shells wouldn't budge. I had to use a cleaning rod and knock the end of the rod on a table to get them out. Why are the shells so hard to get out? They are prob expanding too much but I haven't heard of this issue using 7.62x38r rounds. Any help? Thanks

You might check to make sure that the chambers are clean. While I have no firsthand experience with the Nagant revolver, I do know that many people shoot ammunition with cases shorter than that of 7.62 Nagant in these guns such as .32 S&W Long and hybrid handloads made with .32-20 cases. It is possible that had a previous owner shot a large enough amount of such ammunition that a carbon ring has been deposited in the chambers and thus causes sticky extraction due to the expansion of the longer 7.62x38R cases. This is actually a fairly common issue in revolvers that have shorter sub loads like .357 Magnum/.38 Special and .44 Magnum/.44 Special.

Another possible issue is that there's simply a bit of old, dried cosmoline or other such debris in the chambers that needs to be cleaned out.
