Trouble remembering.

Astra or Star?

Back near or about 1986 a gunsmith friend of mine
showed me his self defense carry gun:
It was a fairly compact 10 shot .45acp
It looked like it had a blued alloy frame 3.5 in barrel and the name Astra or Star seem to stick in my mind.

My friend said it was an overall excellent weapon.
But at the time I was a wheelgunner and didn't
take more than passing notice.

I am very interested to find out what kind of
gun that was and if there are still versions of it out there.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

There are at least 3 Astra models and I think two Star pistols that would fit that description, plus a couple of Llama guns, and that would be just Spanish pistols.

Sorry, more info needed.

I'm sure its wasn't a llama.
I know he wouldn't touch one with a ten foot
cleaning rod.

I'm glad to hear I was at least in the right ballpark.

Is astra and star still in business?
I don't see them listed in any of my gun maker
lists.

If they are still around, how is quality these days?

Alas and alack, both Astra and Star are gone, or at least their wares are not imported into the US.

A I Shudda(tm) thing; I shudda bought a Star PD.
