We have had a Beretta Model 34, made sometime between 1967 and 1973, sittting untouched for a long time. I thought it might be good to clean it, so I googled how to field strip it. After locking the slide back I had to tap the barrel back with a rubber mallet to dis-assemble. Now I can't get the barrel back in. Is it normal to have to use much force? One site I found said to put the barrel in place then release the slide a few times. Could this do any harm?
This pistol has not been shot (or even touched) for at least 20 years, and judging from the looks it has seen extremely little use. If it is not obvious by now, I am a newbie to guns.
Thanks for any suggestions.
