Troops - withdrawls in 2006?

The media today is reporting information that Washington expects that by mid 2006 many troops will begin withdrawl from Iraq. Lt. Gen. John Vines went on record as saying he thinks it's likely 20,000-25,000 troops will depart in 2006. Other reports as many as 50% of troops deployed could be leaving by mid 2006. We should remember Iraq has it's elections in December.

I hope that Iraq can get to it's own security that quick

Seems strange just a few days ago the president stated he won't give any time lines on reduced troops in Iraq. This report might be a lot of nothing but thought it was something to share.....

I think it's a situation where the president can't publicly announce a withdrawal plan so (for good political reasons) they make certain one gets "leaked."

It's a good idea. It gives both the arabs and the American public a sign that the occupation isn't forever while not locking anybody in to anything. If we can't start withdrawing that soon, W just says ... "well, that was an option we were looking at."

very true......

I think the light is at the end of the drain pipe ;)

It might well take 3-5 years to get our forces back home? I am sure the country of Iraq will want and agree that we maintain some troops and bases in that country. If history holds true in this war as wars of the past, we will be there in some shape or form. It's how it should be too, in my opinion.
