im going to be getting some triple 7 for my 44 caliber cap and ball revolver i was wondering if enyone knew how much i should use also the revolver has a brass frame.

No. 20 grains of 777 is equivalent to 23 grains of real bp, and that's the absolute maximum that should be used in a brass framed revolver. 30 grains is equivalent to 35 grains of real black and constitutes abuse to a brass frame. Use 15-18 grains with an inert filler or felt wad to ensure seating the ball. Take care to ensure the ball is firmly seated on the powder but do not compress the powder - 777 is very inconsistent if it's compressed.

Yep, it really is. Plain water is all that's required to clean the residue/fouling. Followed by a good lube/protectant. For that I use Balistol.

ok thanks for the loading info and also i have one problem with the gun maybe you can help some screws back out when your using it is there a product to stop the screws from backing out.

Screws backing out may (repeat, MAY) indicate that there's already some damage to the brass from the heavy loads it's experienced. Fingers is right, however; the only real fix is to ensure the threads (male and female) are clean and free of grease or oil. Avoid the temptation to overtighten them; that will only make it worse. Just hand tighten to 'firm'.

By the way, plain water is all that's needed to clean real black powder fouling also. Really.

i tried that with the black powder regular real hot soapy water couldent keep my hand in water very long dident work used crows foot afret that
the gun wasent ever fired i got the first shot ill clean up screws what do i do if that doesnt work wan i put some thread tape or something that is removable on the screws.

Why do you think it's so wonderful to clean with just water? That's all you
should use with real Black Powder.

Keep that petroleum based stuff out of the bore and chambers and it will clean up with water in a jiffy. A lot faster than cleaning a smokeless gun.
