Trigger weight measurement results

I tested a bunch of my guns a few months back / using a Lyman digital scale. I tested each gun 10 times / logged the results...(drove myself crazy).... and don't know what it proved except it confirmed what I liked in a 1911 / vs a Sig / vs a Revolver. If a trigger is well tuned, when I'm shooting I can't tell the difference between 3.4 and 3.6 lbs of pull. I can definitely tell when it gets up around 4 lbs - but it doesn't make it a bad gun / it just feels a little different. Same thing on my S&W revolvers - they break really consistently and they feel good.

I can really tell the difference in my Sig triggers vs my 1911's - but its not so much weight of pull as it is slack, reset, general feel - and with the exception of my Sig X-Five ( which is a different animal ) I know the Sig triggers are not 1911's .... but they are what they are.

On my 1911's ( in 9mm and .45 acp):

Wilson Combat - 5" Protector models - 3 guns ( 3.4 - 3.6 lbs ).
Wilson CQB 5" ( 4.0 - 4.2 lbs )
Les Baer Monolith 5" ( 3.4 - 3.6 lbs )
Ed Brown Kobra Carry 5"( 3.9 - 4.2 lbs )
Kimbers 3 guns 4" and 5" ( 4.5 - 5.0 lbs ) ( not my favorite 1911's ).

On my Sigs ( 9mm and .40 S&W):
Sig 226's DA/SA 2 guns ( 9.8 - 10.1 on DA / 4.3 - 4.7 on SA )
Sig 239's DA /SA 2 guns ( almost the same as 226's )
Sig X-Five ( adjustable trigger 2 - 4 lbs ) It came out of factory at 2.5 lbs

On my S&W Revolvers:
models 27's, 28's, 19, 66, 686's - all .357 mag 10 guns ( 3.5 - 3.8 lbs )
model 29's, 629's in .44 mag 5 guns / ( 3.7 - 4.0 lbs )
model K-22's / 617's .22 LR 4 guns ( were all around 3.5 - 3.8 lbs )

I don't have as much variation in my collection as you do ( I'm really a 1911 guy / S&W Revolver guy / the Sig X-Five was just something I wanted since its a SAO...and it holds 14 rounds of .40S&W ( 55 oz gun with a full mag in it ). So its just a different beast - but nice.

Revolvers
S&W m60 - 3.75 lbs
S&W m67 - 3.75 lbs
S&W m686 - 4.5 lbs

Why not provide the DA revolver triggers? That would be useful, since that's how most of us use them. That is, if your scale will handle heavier pulls.

Typically, new revolvers (these days) have an atrocious lawyerized trigger pull of 11 to 13 lb.s

A reliable trigger job can typically provide a smooth 8 to 9.5 lbs. (I know, some can be under 8 lb.) and make the revolver pleasant and accurate to shoot. That's how mine are set up. The SA pulls, that I seldom use, range from too light to just fine. That is from 2 to 5lb.

My Sig DA's are typically 9 to 10 lb. But smooth. SA pulls are 3.75 lb. to 4.25. DAK's can range from 6.5 to 8 lb. out of the box, but they'll lighten up as springs and actions loosen up with use.

Hey PBP..great post...copied and filed.
I own a couple of Kahr 9's and was surprised relative to the Glocks...
I used to own a G26 and I would have bet money the pull was lighter than my Kahrs, it was just too big for pocket
Were these standard Glock triggers or the NY (?, not my field:o) version?

My two Wilson Classics (target guns) are set at 2.5-2.75# using Lyman digital gauge. My two carry Wilsons (Professional and Protector) are set at 2.75-3.0#. The single action pulls on my S&W M629 Classic revolvers (.44 Mag) are set at 2#. I prefer lighter triggers and have always shot best with pistol triggers between 2-3#. Bullseye competition rules mandated heavier trigger pulls for .45 ACP class but now I shoot only for my own pleasure.

I would like to check the pull on my 642, but I can only find a scale that measures up to 12 lbs. and I am sure it is above that. Let me no if you no where I can get one that measures up to 15 lbs.

Military grade trigger gauges go up to 25lbs.
