I hear these terms mentioned in the context of tigger pulls, but I don't know what they mean.

Creep
Take up
Slack
(others that I'm forgeting)

Creep = Bad guy
Takeup = Bringing gun to bear on BG
Slack = What you don't cut him ! ;)

Creep is the amount of travel a trigger has when engaged & about to let go.
Takeup is the amount of travel the trigger has to get to the pre-creep stage.
Slack is similar to takeup, as in how much slack is there before it engages?

So if I understand this correctly: When I place my finger on the trigger of my P220 and feel the very loose but short portion before I feel any resistance from the trigger, that is the Take up? The resistance (the ten pounds I have to pull through) I feel in the trigger before firing, but after the very loose part, is creep?

So the trigger on my Browning rifle has no Take Up, because when I put my finger on it, I immediately feel resistance? The creep is the very short portion of movement before it fires?

Excellent. Thanks. I didn't think I'd get any responses in the wee hours, but now I see it's not the wee hours where you are.
