Trigger pressure

I have a Remington 30-06 Model 7400 automatic. The amount of pressure that I have to exert seems excessive. Anyone know if there is a way to reduce this safely?
 
take it to your local gunsmith.

In the case of triggers, if you have to ask....leave it to the gunsmith

Good advice. I was hoping to tackle it myself, but if that is impractical, I am willing to do that too. Thanks.

Everyone started out asking questions, didnt they?

It maybe beyond someones skills to perform trigger work, but if you don't try you will not advance your knowledge or skills. Most of my skills where developed through trial and error, if I got in over my head (key part) I would back off and seek the help of a qualified gunsmith.
Perhaps starting off with a semiauto is not the best idea, but one way to aquire info regarding trigger work is look for a gunsmithing book. It may not have specifics, but it will have gereral knowledge that will be helpful.

Just my opinion.
 
Sometimes you can improve the trigger pull with a good cleaning and polishing of the trigger parts. Doesn't cost anything to try!
 
Any semi-auto always carries the potential for a bad trigger job to make it into an accidental full-auto. I would be inclined to use a gunsmith and do my learning on a single-shot, except for simple polishing or for drop-in reduced tension springs. In the case of the latter, I know there were some available for the 7400 at some point, but don't know if they still are and, alas, don't recall who had them available?
