Trigger Job Instructions for SKS and Marlin Model 60

I wrote up a couple of image-heavy posts giving instructions on how you can improve the trigger on your SKS or Marlin 60-series rifle. The SKS article has been up on a stickied thread at sksboards.com for a while, but I can't find a good Marlin rimfire message board, so I decided the next best place to let people know about the Marlin article was one of the more popular gun boards on the internet.

Thanks for sharing SKS trigger info here, too! I just picked up a screaming deal last week on a boatload of SKS parts for $140 shipped, that included two milled trigger groups.

I'll be using your tutorial to set up the triggers. I wanted to keep my matching ones original and have a couple of extra trigger groups for setting up my hunting rifles and for better range action, without detracting from the collector value. Now I can!

To cut the spring, use anything that will cut the spring without damaging it. I used a set of heavy-duty cutting pliers, but hoof trimmers would be easier. A hacksaw would work but you'd have to be careful to avoid damaging the other coils.

I'm glad you folks are getting good information from my efforts. If/when I go back in, I'll update the pages on my blog with new photos, descriptions and comments.

Two imperative safety checks:

With safety on, make sure the trigger bar is not contacting the sear when you finish increasing sear engagement.

Also, with sear fully engaged, hammer cocked, depress the disconnector downward, smartly, to make sure the disconnector does not push the sear from under the hammer

Know and understand the ramifications of each and every thing you do......

Anywho, if anyone doesn't want to DIY an SKS trigger, send it to Kivaari. I can't tell you how many reports I have read from his satisfied (and occasionally astonished) customers.
