Tried in the Smithy: Mini Mags in Rem 700?

Magazine conversion for Remington 700.

This is probably a long shot but does anyone know of a drop in conversion that would allow a Remington 700 in .223 / 5.56 to take M16 or Mini 14 magazines?

Any reply welcome.
 
I've heard of people converting bolt guns to use auto mags but I have never seen a drop in kit. I'm sure a decent smith could do it for you.
 
HS Precision makes a drop in kit for the M700 but it uses their magazine. I found a JAG conversion on Snipers Hide that uses the Mini-14 magazines but I don't know if you can get it anymore as the thread was old. Looks like AR-15 mags are a little wide to be used with the M700 receiver.

That's the beauty of America. You don't personally have to see a point for other people to desire a product enough for it to exist on the free market. :)

Back on topic...

A few things to remember about the JAG kit:
You must machine the feed rails on the receiver! You cannot go back to the factory internal magazine after you install the kit.
We recommend Ruger factory magazines for the best functioning of the kit. The 2nd choice would be Pro Mag brand magazines.
No magazines are included in the kit.
The lips of the magazine must be spread open to about .540 to allow the rounds to ride up high enough for the bolt to pick them up.
Some minor fitting of the nose piece MAY be required, the nose piece was redesigned so that no fitting would be needed, but all triggerguards are a little bit different.
