Trial Lawyers...The fourth branch of government???

Have you ever suspected that the same people or groups are behind tobacco suits and gun manufacturer suits? The secret is out there, but I have not seen a lot in the "press."

Just came across an article that profiles the law firm taking the lead in both suits. Most interesting is the stated assumption is the plaintiff's bar (that is litigation attorneys for those filing suits) is de facto the fourth branch of government.http://www.lawnewsnet.com/stories/A2076-1999Jun7.html

Enjoy

Here is a connection(?). The Gulf Coast Lawyer who is making MANY MANY MILLIONS of $$$$$$'s is reputed to be Trent Lotts' brother in law.
I haven't verified that but a lawyer friend told me. Isn't that an oxymoron or something?

Trial lawyers taking over the government are nothing new.

Here in California, the trial lawyers own BOTH parties in the state legislature, most blatantly the democrats.

As an attorney, I point out that the more trial lawyers a society has, the less economic, cultural or social progress it is likely to make. All society's resources tend to be used up redistributing wealth when trial lawyers get their way in the making of laws.

Read the article; Well, at least it's good to know that there's disention in THEIR ranks, too.

But when are they going to figure out that the biggest difference between the tobacco suits and the gun suits is that nobody was going to go "Shakespearian" over cigarettes; The BATF's office didn't get bombed over the "T", it got bombed over the "F".

You know, I really think we, as a group, are too reasonable and peaceful; These guys OUGHT to be worried that if they win these suits, they'll lose their lives. But they're not worried about anything except losing money. See what comes of not fertilizing the tree of liberty from time to time?

Seems I have read articles where the press claims to be the fourth estate. Does that mean we'll see a food fight break out between the "press" and trial lawyers? Be still my heart!
