For states that have "make my day" laws (you can probably guess which States, NY isn't one of them, though we do have a Castle Doctrine law here), can jehova's witnesses be legally shot, by a legal, registered handgun or shotgun, when they enter your property? They are uninvited guests, not in uniform (like UPS, FedEx, etc.), they don't give warning when they will be coming to your door, and what if one just happened to be a serial killer? I know this topic might seem off the wall, but today I was working from my home office with my wife home sick after having emergency surgery yesterday, as well as my 1-yr old being in the home, and JW's came up onto my porch. I knew who they were and decided not to answer the door as I didn't want to deal with them. However, they weren't content to just ring the doorbell and go away, they were actually peering through my windows and pushed on my door handle a couple of times to see if it was unlocked. They were lucky it was locked, because if they opened up my door and walked into my house, that constitutes a break-in, I would've pulled the trigger.
Just think of what could potentially happen if criminals caught on and started "posing" as JW's with the intention to rob/harm homeowners (regularly-clothed people carrying bibles)? I mean, how am I supposed to be certain that JW's aren't really criminals in disguise? No uniform, no real identification. I've heard of JW's entering through gates into the yards of homeowners and farmers, then being attacked by a dog or other animal on the property, then winning lawsuits, even when there were "No Trespassing" signs clearly posted on the property. That is just outrageous, any judge deciding in the favor of the JW's (considering they are uninvited trespassers) should be imprisoned. I fear the law is too much on their side, and can only presume that even if a homeowner felt seriously threatened by the behavior of JW's on their property and shot, that the case would most likely not go in favor of the homeowner. At any rate, the specific incident I'm referring to definitely seemed to cross the line, I just wonder how many more pull the same crap...
