Say I got on a trip and buy a gun in a different state (in the US of course) and I buy a gun. Can I bring the gun home with me in my check in luggage?

You can only accept delivery of long arms in other than your state of residence.
Even with long arms the laws of BOTH sotates must be followed.

You can transport any gun in checke baggage.

Brick... are you saying you need it sent to an ffl in your home state?
I was going to say i don't baggage handlers and would have it sent home to ffl no matter what...

Handguns may not be delivered by an FFL to a resident of any other state. If you want to buy a handgun out of state, you need to have the FFL there transfer it to an FFL in your own state who will complete the paperwork (for a fee) for delivery to you.

As for the airlines - the airline doesn't ask, or even care, where you bought a firearm you're checking, so there's no issue there.
