Traveling State to State

A friend of mine is going to be traveling with a camper and his family to New Mexico, Colorado, and then east to Tennessee. He has his CHL from Texas but is curious about traveling. Does he have to keep his concealed handgun on him when traveling outside of Texas, or can he keep it in his camper-trailer? If anyone knows, I am sure my friend would appreciate the counsel!

So does that mean he has to apply for a non-resident permit for each state he will be in or can he just carry based on his Texas Permit?

1. Look here:
http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/USReciprocity.pdf

In every state that recognizes his permit, he may carry the gun concealed just like he does in TX (there may be variations in state laws, however, regarding off limits places such as restaurants that serve alcohol).

He does not need to apply for any other permits, and does not have to be concerned about the requirements of FOPA (posted above), since his Texas permit is recognized by all the states he will be travelling in.

He does need to abide by the laws of each state he is in, just as if he were a resident of that particular state.

Looks like if you live in the Peoples Republic of NY your permit is good in Upstate NY and that's it. Given the hoops you have to jump through to get a CCP in NY I wonder why no one recognizes it. PA recognizes a permit from TX but not NY what's up with that.

handgunlaw.us is a wonderful web site that has the code for each state, shows what other states recognize those permits, etc etc.
